If you’ve never used an online dating site or a married dating site, it can be overwhelming knowing where to go and what to say. When you’re married and looking to date on the side, you have even more obstacles to overcome. While we can’t promise you’ll never get caught, we can offer some basic online dating tips that will work no matter what your situation is. Married dating is easier than you think.
#1: Be Yourself! Unless “yourself” is weird…
Be funny, exhibit your adventurous side, be confident and play up the good qualities you have. Don’t whine and talk endlessly about how awful your spouse is. If you’re married and looking for married dating other married people, it should just go without saying that there is an element of dissatisfaction in your current relationship. Insulting your spouse for hours on end just makes you look pathetic.
#2: Post a good picture, but don’t make it unrealistic
We all looked better 10 or 20 years ago and photo editing programs on the web are everywhere. It’s easy to “fix” imperfections or post a picture of yourself from 20 years ago when you were a high school cheerleader. You have to accurately depict your true self, even if your true self isn’t the best looking of the bunch. Think of how you’d feel if it was reversed. It’s all fine and good to lie on the internet but if you actually want to establish a real connection with someone, you have to be honest about who you are… faults and all. Married Dating it’s just like regular dating…
#3: Quit bragging
We are SO very impressed that you can juggle, that your child is the smartest in his class and sometimes rainbows spew out behind you merely because of your awesomeness. Endless lists of all your accomplishments and brag-worthy qualities tend to be the first line of attack for those on online married dating sites. You want to stand out from the crowd but it can come across as egotistical or narcissistic if that’s all you talk about. On the other hand, simply stating, “I’m a normal person with normal interests and achievements” isn’t any better so find a happy medium. Keep it light and funny. You have to be able to laugh at yourself otherwise the world of online dating will eat you alive.
#4: Don’t tell a lie that will come back to haunt you
Claiming to be 6’3 with chiseled abs and a full head of hair when you actually are 5’8, have a beer gut and went bald at age 20 is going to end up biting you in the ass. Keep in mind married people who are dating on the side don’t have the time to deal with liars and phonies. In the end, you are only hurting yourself. Just because it’s the internet doesn’t mean it’s OK to misrepresent yourself. If you want to take the online aspect out of the equation and really connect with someone in the real world, you can’t go around pretending you’re someone you’re not.
#5: Throw out your expectations on what an “affair” is
I hate to be the one to tell you this but you are not living the live action version of “An Affair To Remember”. Keep in mind real lives can be destroyed by affairs. Ever seen “Fatal Attraction”? You can’t just assume that an affair will satisfy every need you have and you need to lower your expectations just a bit. It’s like anything in life. You have to put the work into it because the perfect affair will not just fall into your lap like it does in the movies. Define for yourself what you are really looking for before moving ahead.
