While we all have a general idea of what a date should be, what do you want to do if you want to show off? The idea used to be that you go to a ballet or an opera, but chances are that's not something that your date would want to go see as interest in these things have waned somewhat in recent years. While it's a sure bet to take someone to a symphony if they're into classical music in a big bad way, you're not going to find the same reception if all they like is Rock.
Right now, the surest bet generally for a more expensive and more impressive date is to take someone to a musical. With so many different types of musicals ranging from Les Miserables to The Book of Mormon, your affair partner is sure to have a good time even if Musicals wouldn't be high on their list of things to do.
What if you're not sure if they'll like musicals though?
There are some things that you can do to test the waters before planning your big date and really, the most impressive thing that you can do on a date with your affair partner is to show that you've put some thought into it. You can ask them something that they've always wanted to do and you might get some interesting answers like bungee jumping or sky diving. If the answer is more along the lines of wishing that they could go to Paris, you could take them out for dinner at a French restaurant and dancing in order to recreate the romance of Paris as best that you can.
When it comes to planning a big date there are people who think that the more money that you put in, the better. While money is definitely an asset when it comes to the planning of dates on a grand scale, if you don't know the tastes of your affair partner then it's all for nothing. Maybe you can take them to a big sporting even if they're a big sports fan or you can find out little things about your affair partner that will allow you to tailor your experience to their taste.
Simply paying attention to the music that they like to listen to or the movies that your affair partner likes to watch can hold huge cues. Are they always listening to a certain band? Take them to a concert if you can. Do they love romantic movies? Then do your best to create a date that emulates that sweetness that so many romantic movies have.
As we said before, the key to this is to make the night about them and to put some thought into what they want to do rather than what you want to do. If they end up wanting to go to the ballet, then you might be bored but the appreciation that your affair partner will show will be well worth the effort.
Whatever you decide to do in the end, if you put a little bit of thought into it you'll find that it goes a long way.
