Not too long ago we polled our members asking how many times they have found themselves having an affair or hookup at the holiday office party. Today I am going to give you the Top 10 things you should never be doing at your office holiday party.
There are clear things you should not do at this year's office party to survive the night. According to a recent Wall Street Journal article,”It's OK to be the first person at the company holiday party. Just don't be the last person at the company holiday party.” Also, “The company holiday party is not the moment to try Jagermeister or walking on your hands for the first time.” and “Dancing at the office holiday party is a bold move-though not as bold as dancing by yourself at the office holiday party.”
DON'T Spill the beans about your personal life. Details of your personal life should not be discussed with colleagues. A few drinks may provoke you to tell the wrong person you're having an affair or you don't get on with your stepchildren or your mother has a drinking problem. Tomorrow it will probably be doing the rounds in the mailroom or among the cleaning staff.
DON'T Reciprocate advances from married colleagues. Just don't go down this road. It always ends in heartbreak and drama and will make colleagues lose respect for you. It also complicates the working situation if the person who has to decide on your promotion knows what you look like with no clothes on.
DON'T Flirt Outrageously Despite what Hollywood would have us believe, this isn’t the time to pursue your secret office crush. And be sure to steer clear of the drunk co-worker, no matter how attractive they look in their party wear; you don’t want to put yourself at risk with someone who has less self-control.
DON'T Drink Too Much… and Feed Yourself Beforehand
DON'T Leave Your Spouse at Home. If the invite is for spouses as well, be sure to bring them along. This will act as a guarantee against any possible tryst with a colleague… unless, your partner is into that kind of thing, and that is a completely other story.
DON'T Be the First to Leave. That will have your co-workers raising their eyebrows
DON'T Book a Hotel Room Ahead of Time. Once you've had a few too many cocktails and are cozied up at the bar with your work crush, you will not think twice about inviting them up to your hotel room. This is a classic case of “sounded good at the time” but always ends in regret… and a really bad hangover.
DON'T Dress Provocatively. We get it, you're hot! And your colleagues may even think so too, but remember, you don't have to remind them. Sexy clothing leads to naughty thoughts which can lead to inappropriate acts, all of which are a serious recipe for distaster.
DON'T Hang out with the IT guys. Of AshleyMadison.com male members, the number one profession is IT. If you're a single lady at the holiday party and an IT guy – no matter how handsome! – offers you a drink, politely decline as you find your nearest work girl friend to bring you back to reality.
Last but not least, DON'T Walk Under the Mistletoe. Do we really have to explain this one?
